About the Celebration
Help Calvary Baptist Church honor the legacy of Dr. King, recognize the contributions of Dennis D. Everett, Jr., and raise funds for Calvary Baptist Church's scholarship fund and outreach programs.
This year's theme, "The Sounds of a Movement," will explore Dr. King's enduring message of justice and equality through the powerful stories and voices of those who propelled the civil rights movement forward. The event will honor Dr. King's vision and the unsung heroes who shaped the fight for freedom through song, dance, a one-act play, and more.
This year, Calvary Baptist Church is proud to present the Drum Major for Justice Award to Dennis D. Everett, Jr., a multi-talented advocate, artist, and champion of change whose life exemplifies Dr. King's dedication to justice. Everett's work in prison reform, youth empowerment, and restorative justice has impacted communities across Massachusetts and beyond.
Drum Major for Justice Award
This year's Drum Major for Justice Award recipient, Dennis D. Everett, Jr., embodies the transformative spirit of Dr. King's legacy. Everett's remarkable journey from a challenging childhood marked by instability and adversity to becoming a national thought leader in social justice is both inspiring and humbling.
As a bi-racial Black man navigating systemic barriers and personal struggles, Everett emerged as a passionate advocate for prison reform, youth empowerment, and restorative justice. He is the co-founder of Power of Self-Education (POSE) Inc., a social justice community engagement organization. He serves as the Director of Restorative Justice Practices and Training for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

We thank them for being an essential part of this mission.

About Calvary Baptist Church
Founded in 1871, Calvary Baptist Church is the oldest African American church in the Merrimack Valley. Emerging from a small prayer group of Southern migrants, the church became a cornerstone of faith and resilience. Despite challenges, including a devastating fire in 1977, CBC rebuilt and continues to serve as a beacon of hope in the Merrimack Valley community, offering spiritual guidance, outreach ministries, and community programs while honoring its legacy of bringing the community closer to Christ.
Together, we can build the future Dr. King envisioned.
